Nyx Butter Gloss - Review

After my slight disappointment with the Nyx Butter Lipsticks i thought it was about time i posted my thoughts on the now infamous Butter Glosses. As you've probably already seen there has been quite a bit of hype around these and have had gloss fans positively raving about the formula. I should probably start by saying that in general i am not a gloss fan. I've probably enjoyed only a couple of glosses in my time and as I'm more of a matte girl at heart they aren't something i purchase on the regular. That being said i have been experimenting with a glossier lip here and there lately so its not a completely biased opinion.

As always with Nyx products i purchased these from eBay as generally it is still cheaper to ship from the USA than buy direct from the Nyx UK website. I believe i paid around £12 for the three including delivery which isn't a bad price. After a lot of deliberating i opted for more wearable shades but if these don't take your fancy they have a variety of shades, 22 in fact, from bolds to nudes so there is a gloss to suit everyone.

The formula of these really is lovely, a big statement coming from a former gloss hater. They have a decent amount of slip to them without that nasty, sticky feeling that a lot of glosses tend to have. Pigmentation is average but works well for a sheer wash of colour on their own or packs more a punch layered over another lipstick, they've even made the Butter Lipsticks more enjoyable for me. They do however tend to sit in any creases or lines on the lip so i do have to scrub and prime before each use. They have a light, sweet but inoffensive smell too which is quite pleasant, so they get a thumbs up from me in the scent department too!

Peaches and Cream - Maple Blondie - Eclair

I'm surprised to say that overall I'm actually quite enjoying these! Because of their lack of stickiness the wear time isn't fantastic but these are a great "in a rush" lip option and even more surprisingly I've been enjoying layering them over my matte lipsticks... The horror! So if you can get your hands on Nyx's Butter Glosses I'd say go for it, they get a big Makeup Obsession stamp of approval which i think is a first for a gloss!

Nyx Butter Lipsticks - Review

Heya Lovelies!

Nyx's Butter Glosses and Lipsticks have been a real smash hit product with bloggers over the past six months or so. So little addict here had to get on the bandwagon and after some frantic eBay searching i finally found a reputable seller that had these in stock. After spending quite some time searching for swatches i finally decided on these three shades; Hunk, Sweet Tart and Taffy. I wanted an array of shades to really give the formula a try, mostly because I had my eye on another three... I really am awful!

The packaging on these really floats my boat as each tubes colour corresponds with the lipstick shade inside, really great for quickly grabbing one out my lippy collection! They do however feel quite cheap, which may be expected with their $6 price tag, i just have to make sure the lid is secure before throwing in my handbag! Currently Nyx have released 22 shades of Butter Lipstick so if these colours don't take your fancy I'm sure one of the 19 others might.

The texture of these is on the thinner, sheerer side for a lipstick with the deeper shades packing the most colour punch. They are incredibly comfortable on the lips, a little slippy but feel somewhat moisturising which is a nice change from my usual matte picks. I just have to make sure (quite often) that I've not got them smeared all over my teeth... Which due to their thinner consistency (and my sloppy application) happens quite a bit on me. Also due to the texture they don't wear more than a few hours before needing a touch up which is their real downside. The wear time is quite a bit better over a lip liner, i really love Nyx's ones fyi, but they do not feather if applied without.

Taffy - Sweet Tart - Hunk

Sweet Tart and Taffy are the two I've been reaching for the most out of the bunch, mostly for throwing in my handbag for quick day time touch ups. I do love the shade Hunk (very similar to Mac's Rebel) but i prefer my deeper shades to wear a lot longer than this does. On a whole i was a little underwhelmed with these lipsticks and for me, they didn't live up to the Youtube hype they received. They aren't bad, they have a great colour range i just wish they had better staying power. I have also ran out of willpower and ordered a few of the Nyx Butter Glosses so i hope those really are hype worthy!

FOTD: Stuck In A Rut

Ello Lovelies!

I've been stuck in a little bit of a makeup rut lately, wearing the same look most days and not having much time to change up my routine too much due to work, boo! So over the weekend i was determined to crack out some different goodies and give a new look a bit of a try. Well here's how it went!

Overall i was pretty happy with look. Sure its not the most creative look, but for me its pretty good! My foundation ratio was a little off, my Colourstay is a smidge too light and my Studio Fix Fluid (NW15) is FAR too dark so i like to try and mix the two so i feel like I'm not wasting two perfectly good foundations. I just wish i could get the ratios perfect every time i try, oh well!

I'm really looking forward to trying out some more bolder looks and well and truly getting out of my makeup rut! I've also got my eye on some indie pretties currently, so hopefully I'll have some bits and bobs to show and review soon, yay!

Collection 2000 Cream Puff Lip Cream

Hiya Lovelies!
The weathers looking a little bit nicer than it has been over the past few weeks (YAY) and has got me in a rather summery mood! As you know I've been a little bit tight with my spending lately but i did manage to pick up a few budget products in town over the past few weeks, ooops! Although i feel a little splurge is in order on next payday as i have been pretty damn good with my savings! Not that I'm trying to convince myself or anything...

Collection 2000's Cream Puffs have been raved about online and i thought it was about time i picked one up, at £2.99 it wasn't breaking the bank so if it didn't work for me it was no big loss. After seeing some rave reviews about them i was a little bit disappointed with the colour selection, in both stores i visited there were only 4, which lets be honest could be a lot better. There were only two colours that really took my fancy as the other two were beigey nudes and i am under no impression that i could pull those off! So i opted for the peachier colour, shade 3 Fairy Cake.

Now the sunlight has been a little deceptive with this swatch as it is leaning a little more orange than it actually is, the lip swatch is a more accurate colour. Honestly, its a pretty colour but i don't love it. Its easy to apply and has pretty good lasting power so for me makes an easy, go to day shade. My only gripe with it is if you don't exfoliate your lips it really does sink in and cling to dryer areas after an hour or so. And i know this from experience, silly ol' me went out one day and probably had this on for a good few hours before i realised it had well and truly clung around the dry patches where my lips meet... ew! Needless to say I've remembered to exfoliate more often!

I really do love the texture of these, like the name implies they are a cream formula and glide onto the lip. They dry down to a matte finish but will move about quite easily so paranoid me has a mirror to hand for speedy lip checks.

Overall i think this is a pretty decent product i just wish Collection 2000 would give us some more shades, pleaaasseee!? Its cheap at £2.99, wears well (if you aren't lazy like me and exfoliate regularly) and is opaque with one swipe. As far as I'm aware there is nothing like this on the high street currently but they have been compared to the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams, which have a slightly better colour range but are less accessible here in the UK.

Nyx Green Concealer In A Jar Review

Another naughty eBay purchase review for you today. I'd seen a few rave reviews on the original, skin toned Nyx Concealer In A Jar and as i was in the market for a green concealer / primer and am sadly on quite a tight budget i thought I'd give this one a bash. I've mentioned before i do get my Nyx on eBay even though there is a UK online store. Because the price difference is quite steep if you only want one item once you've paid postage its normally about double what you pay to get the product and have it shipped from the USA, madness!

 I have quite a lot of pink in my skin which as I've been using less coverage foundations lately has been really ticking me off, so i went on the hunt for a solution. Weirdly, there aren't as many green concealers / primers on the high street as you'd think. I only spotted one or two in Boots and then spent about half an hour lusting after the Smashbox one as i love the original, i just don't love the price! So eBay it was!

Sadly, i don't think this does an awful lot. Heavily swatched it looks like it'd be perfect, but it literally blends out to nothing. Even out of frustration i scooped out rather a large lump and it just blended away never to be seen again... Well thats a bit dramatic but i just don't think this works for me. I've tried it both under and over a few foundations but I've just had no luck what so ever.

Overall, yes it was a bargain at just over £4, but its not really a bargain if it doesn't work. I really wanted to love this, but i just couldn't make it work however i applied it. So if you have any tips or suggestions on application, or even any other affordable products, let me know! On the plus side the seller i purchased it from has a lot of affordable Nyx products and my package arrived in just a week, which from the USA is bloody brilliant!

NYX Cream Blushes

Ello again!

Nyx's Cream Blushes are often a hot topic in the blogging / youtube community and I'd been meaning to get my paws on a few for some time. But hating paying £4.50 shipping for things and not being able to see the products up close and personal REALLY put me off. So these were at the top of my list of things to check out at IMATS (I can't believe it was a month ago!).

Ideally my colour selection could of been a little better, but i do tend to loose all sensibility and just grab pretty colours (oops)! A more natural toned one wouldn't have gone amiss, but oh well! Just something else to go on my ever expanding wish list.

The two i picked up were Pinky (Left) and Red Cheeks (Right). These look pretty damn scary in both the pan and swatched as they are SO pigmented. But with a light hand (i use a small stippling brush) its easy to apply a flush of colour without looking like Coco the Clown. A little bit really does go a long way and they blend and melt into the skin beautifully.

There's not really a good offering of cream blushes on budget price end so I'm pretty pleased with these. And at just £5.50 each, makes them doubly appealing. The only let down is that you can only buy online through the NYX UK website, Ebay or Cherry Culture and shipping from any of these sites can be pricey.

These are currently available in 13 different shades on the NYX UK Website. But do have a look on places like Ebay because of the UK / USA pricing difference you can sometimes bag yourself a bargain.

Hopefully we'll see some quality cream blushes on the high street in the near future! Whats your favourite cream blush?

London IMATS 2012 - The Haul

I'd saved for the past months including Christmas money and been on a semi successful spending ban, so i splurged quite a bit... oops! I'd been making a list of products i wanted and didn't deviate too much from it, and stuck to my budget. I ended up going back to Inglot multiple times, and getting a little bit overexcited! I'll try to list prices where i can, although some may just be a rough idea, i have a brain like a sieve at times.

This was one of the last booths i visited, and i really wished I'd gone there first. I'd been on the hunt for a large powder brush and didn't want to pay £16 for a mediocre one from Crown or Royal. I was so shocked at how nice these brushes are i wish I'd picked up a few more!

Overall I'm dead chuffed with my purchases. I got nearly everything i wanted and a few extras, and most at bargain prices too! I did manage to forget to photograph a couple of things. I was restrained and only bought one lip tar from OCC, in demure. And after a bit of searching i eventually found the best priced Z palettes and £12 each, so i got two! Depotting fun ahoy!

Products I Regret Buying

Hey guys!

Lately I've been doing a bit of shopping the stash, I've been trying my hardest to buy a bit less on the run up to Christmas (but it's not been going terribly well!). So I've rediscovered a lot of stuff that's been previously unloved in my collection and remembered why i really disliked a lot of products. So here's most of the items i regret buying!

The Smashbox quad came in a set, and if i could find it most other items they'd be included in this post too! I bought it on a whim mainly for the train case that came with it (which turned out to be rubbish quality!). I never use this, i don't like the colours or how they wear and really wish I'd spent the £50 the set cost me more wisely! 

 

Some Kind Of Gorgeous.... all i can say is yuck. I purchased this before i really got into makeup and i absolutely hate it. Even though it's oil free i find it incredibly greasy, the staying power isn't great and i had to use a stupid amount or product to cover anything, and my skin isn't too bad! I'm really not fond of any of Benefits foundations.

Mac Paint Pot in Blackground. Okay, i don't hate this product i just never find myself using it. I much prefer other bases or primers and i think I'm just not brave enough to pull this off. This isn't a bad product i just think for me personally it was a waste of money!

These two i absolutely detest!

All the hype Backcomb In A Bottle got baffles me. I love big hair and backcomb mine frequently but no matter how i use this it just makes my hair sticky and horrid! Such a waste of money!

And the Nyx Glitterati palette... Well the magpie in me really took over on this purchase. Common sense completely left me and what went through my brain was 'OMG IT'S GLITTERY AND SPARKLY I WANT IT'... Sigh. Although it has a lovely range of colours i find it greasy and extremely hard to work with. The glitter wont stay were it's put and is extremely sheer and patchy. I'll just stick to applying glitter on top of Duo in future and hopefully have some more common sense. 

Last but not least Nyx Jumbo Pencils. In my opinion there is only one worth having, Milk. Although these colours are lovely they crease like a nightmare. There are practically unusable, but i do look forward to getting my hands on Urban Decays offering of pencils because they look great!

So enough rambling for me! I do lots of positive reviews so thought it was about time i share which products i really dislike!
